Women’s Activism in Saudi Arabia: Male Guardianship and Sexual Violence

Abstract
The document presents a study on Women’s Activism in Saudi Arabia: Male Guardianship and Sexual Violence. There is very little data on the interplay between uncodified Islamic law and sexual violence in Saudi Arabia. It is a difficult context not only for women’s rights activists to operate within, but also for researchers to access information. Saudi Arabia is a closed country and information regarding laws nd court cases are therefore hard to come by. With few exceptions, most written secondary sources on women’s rights in Saudi Arabia are from “grey” literature and media accounts that often portray a stereotypical image of Saudi women as oppressed and without agency
