The completion of this report represents the first phase of the Arab Women and Legislations Program, implemented by the Center for Arab Women Training and Research (CAWTAR) with the support of the Arab Gulf Fund for Development (AGFUND).
The project aims to define and analyze the status of women and their legal rights in the legislations of 20 Arab countries, members of the League of Arab States, with the exception of Comoros and Somalia.
Close to 300 laws were analyzed, through comparing them to each other, and with reference to the agreements and the international conventions, which these countries ratified.
The analysis covered the measures taken to activate their national and international commitments and to highlight the evidence of the forms of institutional discrimination against women in the Arab Region, with the purpose of promoting the desired change by proposing legislative reform and relevant supportive measures.
