In the Framework of the regional meeting of experts held from July 15 to 17, 2008 in Tunis as part of the joint regional initiative between the Center for Arab Women Training and Research “CAWTAR” and the international Labor Organization – Regional Office for Arab Countries on “Gender Equality and the Rights of Workers in Informal Economies of Arab Countries”.

Based on presentations and debates coming out of the regional meeting of experts, the report provides a summary of raised topics on concepts and terminology specific to informality social protection and social security. The report also presents case studies of several topics including the continuing importance of agricultural work and public sector work, the continuity of patriarchal social norms, infrastructure, social protection and women’s work..
