Published in December 2010, The Catalogue includes 173 posters (56 were collected in the framework of the competition and 117 were produced by institutions), and covered 13 Arab countries : Jordan, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, Morocco and Yemen.

The Guide includes two types of posters of which a few that have already been published by organizations in the context of awareness raising campaigns, while others were collected in the context of CAWTAR’s competition to select the best posters addressing violence against women in Arab countries.

Posters included in the Catalogue address various forms of violence (physical, psychological, sexual, …) in public and private spaces.

A large number of posters have promotional objectives, advertising counseling and consultancy services ; or serves as campaigns for the fight against women and children.

In spite of similar contents and messages, we noticed major differences between countries in terms of designs and picture formats and types ; there were more caricatures in Jordan and Egypt, while Tunisian posters were marked by abstract drawings and stylized graphic design. Artistic photography and graphic designs marked Algerian posters, while posters received from Sudan and Iraq were characterized by realistic and artistic photography. In Palestine, symbolic and abstract posters prevailed. Lebanon offered a wide variety of posters and hence various techniques, including symbolic drawings, shadowed photos and artistic photography .. while posters from yemen used figurative and abstract drawings.
